    2. March of the Eagles

Now that March of the Eagles is released, we want to summarize our thoughts in a post-mortem developer diary!

As you all know, March of the Eagles is something quite different compared to our titles. Early on we had an idea of what we wanted to create. We wanted to create a wargame. Not just any wargame, but a wargame that would be a real cutthroat in multiplayer and a game that should have set victory conditions and limited time-frame to make the experience more intense.

Why did we want this, you might ask? We wanted a different kind of game and a different kind of gameplay experience for all you gamers. We all love our grand strategy titles, rest assure, but even as grand strategy fans – sometimes you want to play and win, you want to play and see results and you want to challenge your friends, create alliances or just backstab them in gruesome ways in a shorter timeframe. ...

    2. March of the Eagles

Hey everyone and welcome to the 18th developer diary for March of the Eagles!
Today we take a look at two rather different combatants – Sweden vs. Russia. These are two great Northern powers. Not a fair fight, you say? What do you mean? Sweden is the grandest nation of them all!
Wait, that's not very Jante now, is it? Forget I said that (What's Jante? We'll explain that in a moment.)

    Combatant 1: Sweden:

Once feared as the Lion of the North, when Sweden roared the Baltic trembled. Then the loss of the Great Northern War saw the Lion caged, doomed to pace inside its small prison, its roar now but a whimper. Sweden still holds a tiny part of piece of its once impressive German empire, but, at best, Sweden is a first-rate second-rate power. A colder Portugal, maybe.

The revolution in France has changed all that. Our jailers' eyes have turned to Paris and the bars of our cage are the brittlest they have ever been. Now is our chance, now is our time to come roaring back onto the world stage! If Sweden times its interventions wisely, it can use the French distraction to hassle a harried Prussia or Russia - and its once great armies could again be that extra weight one coalition needs to tip the scales in its favor. ...

So, we meet again? Welcome to the March of the Eagles developer diary 17, where the two German powers, Austria and Prussia, go head to head. As we measure these masters of central Europe, who will get your eager leadership? Which of the eagles will you lose to?

    Introducing combatant 1: Prussia

    Prussia’s national ideas

Having come out of the Seven Year’s War as one of the strongest and most militarized states in Europe, Prussia controls the continental route to the Baltic Sea and its army has become a byword for professionalism and efficiency. It was one of the leaders in the early wars against the French Republic, but called it a day with the Treaty of Basel in 1795. In the years before March of the Eagles starts, Prussia used the French wars against Britain and Austria as an opportunity to grab even more German lands, including Hanover for a time. But Prussia won’t just play along with France for long – it may cede the west bank of the Rhine, but central Europe is another matter. ...

    2. March of the Eagles

Welcome to the 16th developer diary for March of the Eagles and now we turn our eyes to an island that should never be underestimated. It is small in territory, large in potential and the greatest threat to total French domination.

Great Britain is one of the great powers you can play and win with in March of the Eagles. With one of the great natural borders of history – the English Channel - protecting it, Britain is secure from invasion so long as that border can be safeguarded. Victory in the Seven Years' War guaranteed that Britain would be the pre-eminent naval power for some time, and not even the loss of thirteen American colonies changed that. Great Britain enters the Napoleonic era with near total mastery of the seas.

Remaining in this position requires just one thing - the balance of power on the continent must be maintained. Should any single European nation build a coalition or empire large enough to cow its neighbors, Britain would face a concentrated foe with much greater resources. The forces unleashed by the French Revolution threaten to upset this balance, and so Britain eventually emerged as France's principal foe. The Treaty of Amiens, negotiated to restore some semblance of balance between the two powers, is now a dead letter. Bad faith on both sides of the table led to Britain declaring war on France on the 18th of May 1803. March of the Eagles takes up the struggle two years later. Britain still rules the oceans while France is building an impenetrable fortress on land.

This is a fight to the finish, and Britain expects that every man will do his duty. ...
